Pleasant Ridge Garden Club

Summer will soon be winding down and we can all look forward to enjoying the vivid colors of the fall leaves and the bright petals of the chrysanthemums. Michigan seasons always manage to put on a show.  The Garden Club also begins a new season -In June new officers were installed and over the summer the program committee worked hard to find programs that will encourage us all to be better gardeners as well as better stewards of the Earth.  This year we are encouraged to “Grow More Than Gardens” and hopefully our programs will help us do just that. If you are interested in flower arranging, we will have several demonstrations and workshops. In January we will learn about “forcing” bulbs, with a trip to JR Blumz in Ferndale. The Speakers Bureau of the DIA will present a slide presentation, Art In Full Bloom: Flowers And Art. Stacey Feldman from Four Seasons will encourage our design skills with a program titled “Seasonal Color in Window Boxes and Containers as well as Show Stopping perennials for “The Ridge”. Bob Marzoff, a designer from English Gardens will speak about, Art in the Garden—Growing Beauty for the Eye and Environment. On November 9th at 7:30 our program will feature Jud Hart. Jud is co-owner of Hart Tree Service as well as the Pleasant Ridge City Forester. He is passionate about trees and anxious to talk about their care, what they do for the environment and how they add value to our community. Andrea Johnston will

also be there for a short talk on Rain Barrels. We encourage you to mark your calendar for this worthwhile program. Most of our meetings are the 1st Monday of the month and usually held at 4 Ridge. This year, in an effort to reach out to more members of the community we will be having 4 evening meetings and 5 meetings during the day. There has never been anyone who could make our meeting sound so interesting or who could make you smile as you read what the “ladies of the Garden Club” were up to. Cev, you deserve to retire. However, your articles most certainly will be missed.
