DPW News

Winter is fast approaching and the City is preparing for the upcoming season. Residents that would like road salt delivered to their homes must place a container at the curb (no larger than 5-gallon) on the 3rd Monday of each month.  DPW employees will fill the container after they pickup unbundled brush.

Sidewalks are cleared if 4” of snow falls and after all snow is removed from the streets. If a property has decorative plants or sprinklers at the edge of the lawn on either side of the sidewalk, there may be minor damage caused by the plow tires. Also, you may wish to remove decorative borders, such as wood rails, bricks or plants that are placed along the sidewalk border. Generally, the plow does not cause damage to lawns or sprinklers. Should that occur, restoration of the area will be scheduled the following spring.

DPW crews follow a priority list of street clearance after a heavy snowfall. First, the streets are cleared for vehicle traffic and streets are prioritized by the Police Department. Sidewalks and corners are cleared
after the streets are clear for travel. Those streets where students are walking to and from school are cleared first and residential side streets follow. If there is a heavy accumulation of snow in a short period of time, it may be several days before the sidewalk in front of your property is cleared.

The City again asks that property owners with a fire hydrant in front of their property avoid piling snow around the hydrant and immediately clear any snow away from the hydrant whenever possible.

Leaves and Yard Debris

Plastic garbage bags are NOT acceptable for collection of leaves. SOCRRA will accept yard waste or bundled branches “off season” from communities at any time of the year (mid-December thru mid-April).    The City does NOT collect compost, yard waste or bundled branches after December 8 or before April 17. Residents will have to drop compost off at SOCRRA themselves. Call SOCRRA at 248-288-5150.

Senior Yard Services

Each year the City receives monies from the Oakland County Community Development Block Grant Program to fund a Senior chore Program.  At this time, there are several openings on the program for the current program year.
The program consists of lawn maintenance, fall leaf removal and snow plowing.  The program is an age and income qualified program.  I would be more than happy to send you an informational packet should you be interested in the program.  Please contact Amy at City Hall for more information.
